First, configure data import
If you’re not already at the configuration tab, switch to it now. Then, jump to the “Host form” for “Guest form” view.

This is how you tell Visigoth where to get user data from. Its already set up with the default sample data. You can do this in two ways:
- From a Google spreadsheet, if you use Google Forms.
- By uploading a CSV or TSV file, if you use Microsoft Forms, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, or similar survey software.
We’ll help you configure this when setting up your Visigoth instance.
Second, update user-submitted data
Switch to the responses view. You’ll see some default columns defined to start you off, but without any data. You can click on the “refresh” icon to get the update button. (The actual button will look different depending on how you’re getting your data.)

Each time you get new data, Visigoth merges in the data you’ve uploaded into what it already has. It remembers all settings and changes you’ve already configured. (If you want to get rid of the existing data and start from scratch, you’ll need to click “clear all data”.)
Go ahead and click the “Update Guests” button to merge in the dummy data into the existing configuration. You’ll see a bunch of loaded data, with each row corresponding to one form response.

You can interact with the data by:
- Unchecking the first column to exclude the column from further processing.
- Setting what the data is for in the dropdown box in the header.
- Renaming/Hiding columns by selecting them and right-clicking.

- Reordering columns by dragging and dropping.
- Overriding individual cell values by double-clicking the cell and changing it.
Additionally, there’s some problems with the data. You can see this in the highlighted alert button on the top menu, and by right-clicking the affected columns.

Â

We can find those columns and edit the cell values to fix the problem. In this case, we remove the repeated requests and that fixes the problem. Changed cell values are highlighted, and if the underlying data changes, it will show up as an error so you can fix it.
Once you’re happy with the data for now, you can tell Visigoth to start using the updated data by clicking the “Update guests” button under the right-arrow icon. This isn’t final — you can always come back and change or update the data later.

You can switch over to the People tab to see the list of imported people. We’ll explore that more in Step 4: People, but for now repeat these steps for the hosts.
Every time any attendee changes their responses or new attendees submit responses, you’ll need to get new data, check it, and then update the guests and hosts.
After this, we’ll continue in Step 3: Events.
